Whether the work is a one-off research project or quarterly retained advisory, the underlying structure is the same. We resist the consultant tendency to dress up four steps as twelve.

Brief & scope

Discovery call to understand the decision the research needs to support. Written brief covering audience, market, hypotheses and success criteria.

Research

Primary and secondary research using Australian sources (ABS, IBISWorld, Roy Morgan) plus UK-group context where useful. Findings captured in a structured workbook.

Synthesise

Findings translated into a written strategy document or research report. Includes assumptions, evidence base, alternatives considered, and explicit recommendations.

Walk-through

Common questions about CMB Insight

How long does a typical Starter engagement take?
Four to six weeks from kick-off to walk-through is typical. Shorter is sometimes possible if the brief is tightly scoped; longer if primary research (interviews, surveys) is in scope.
Do you do primary research yourselves or outsource it?
Both, depending on the work. In-depth interviews and small-sample qualitative research are typically delivered in-house. Large-sample quantitative surveys are commissioned through a panel provider where statistical rigour is needed — we manage the supplier, you don’t deal with them.
What if our internal team disagrees with the findings?
We present evidence, not opinion. If your team has a counter-view, we want it on the table — that disagreement usually reveals an assumption worth testing. The deliverable always names alternatives we considered and rejected, so the rationale is auditable.
Can we engage CMB Insight alongside CMB Amplify on the same campaign?
Yes — this is a common pattern. Insight provides the strategy and channel plan; Amplify executes the creative and media. The two engagements run as a coordinated programme with a single brief and shared KPIs, but they can also run independently if you only need one of them.
Do you sign NDAs?
Yes. We will sign your NDA, or provide our standard mutual NDA, before any sensitive material is shared. Confidentiality applies to everything we see during an engagement regardless of whether a separate NDA is in place.
How does this differ from a typical research agency?
Research agencies typically deliver data. We deliver decisions. The research is the means; the strategy document and KPI framework are the deliverable. If you only need raw data, a research agency is cheaper and we will tell you so.
